There are many options today when it comes to braces. We typically use three types: metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign. Each is unique and has its own advantages.
Traditional metal braces are the most common type, and they are what most people picture when they hear the word “braces”. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, less noticeable, and more attractive. They typically do the best job at straightening teeth.
Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appearance. The only drawback to ceramic brackets is that they are more fragile, and the o-rings can discolor between orthodontic visits. Clear braces can move teeth faster than clear aligners.
The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates called aligners that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. They are the clear alternative to traditional metal braces. Invisalign allows you to get a straight smile without the inconvenience of brackets and wires. This system is available to teen and adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
